I got lucky and picked up a pair of unreleased cpu's for my gainestown rig..
----------------------------------------Just installed last night so just a "feel" so far as to what it will do but it's eating WU like a thirsty man at an oasis.. Running 16 threads at 3458mhz. Maybe 55-60,000PPD at this rate.. Very impressive and temps under air cooling with trues are excellent. Not related but yesterday I had my youngest visit me. She's 20 and because of distance and divorce I don't see her that often. When she walked thru the door it brought back to mind why we do this. I have two daughters, both healthy thank God but I see them and then see the pics of the unlucky ones and it says in living color why we do this. |

Would those be 32nm unreleased CPU's?
I am waiting for that transition before I build a new system. |

I've taken my Mom, sister and wife to way too many chemo and radiation treatments. . . . . . during those times, I saw entirely too many bald-headed children. That's why I keep crunching WCG. |

Would those be 32nm unreleased CPU's? I am waiting for that transition before I build a new system. no, 45nm, 32nm(gulftown 6 cores) won't hit the channel for at least another month and those will be the first steppings. The nice thing is they are supposed to be drop ins on the current dual socket 1366 boards. I've taken my Mom, sister and wife to way too many chemo and radiation treatments. . . . . . during those times, I saw entirely too many bald-headed children. That's why I keep crunching WCG. My heart goes out to you. That has to be tough in a way that I can't even understand. I've seen the pics of the children and that grabs my heart. Adults understand the why's. Children don't and shouldn't have to deal with this crap. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Movieman at Jul 11, 2009 4:44:19 PM] |

Personally, I'd be interested in knowing what you've got there and what mischief you can get into with it. |

Dual gainestown but received a pair of new cpu's to test.. #7 machine overall in the project for the month and there's some monster machines above me..I have 8 cores and some of those above me are just plain scary machines! http://boincstats.com/stats/host_stats.php?pr...active=&st=0&or=8 |

Impressive, so are you overclocking it a bit or is 3458 the stock speed?
Your number 1 for XP machines. I wonder if that is limiting you? Your within a few percent of all but the 32 and 84 core machines and the X5570 16 core machine. It is nice that all that power is being used for a good cause. |

I'm old fashioned and like XP Pro 64 bit. Small overhead and stable and I absolutely hate Vista.. That X5570 you mentioned above me is just like mine(8 cores,16 threads) but his max is 3200 vs my 3458.. the OS( OSX, so a Apple machine) might be a factor. We'll see as my numbers keep climbing.. Nice toys! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for using them for such a worthwhile cause.
And just think, in time these workhorses will be fairly common, allowing many of us to throw them onto the grid. (Perhaps even my broke self.) And by then, who knows what wonderous toys you'll be able to get your hands on! Crunch on. |
