Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

It's quite interesting. Why you can't make Client's like Boinc decide on PC what it shoud use creating interface using what is avible to work. At the end you could stop woring about lowest common denominator because your clients (BOINC) would work somehow like JAVA.

At the end all "zillion different combinations of hardware+operating systems versions." woul look to project the same way and you would use all new(implemented in client) functions.
In long run it should improve performance without locking out old pc.

If I understand you corectly in all project you have to worry for "all zillion different combinations" using idea of virtual machine would solove this issue.

If you tell me that SSE3 in that case would give diffrent results then interface is not working corectly.

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

There are other software packages that work having solution to this problem.
Folding @ Home, GROMACS and the OpenMM library.

Parts of their algoritm are encapsulated in plugins/library that are optimized for different CPU types, SSE level, GPU available etc. The main program structure is the same.
But this moves discussion to other threads, one about SSE and 64 bit computing, other to CUDA processing etc.

Lets make sure that we can crunch on more machines and that the software will gradually improve to take care of their full potential.
