Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

Yes, creepy, creepy stalking sunny water boy.
I thought you were camping
Did you get rainfall in the scale as you did recently
with landslides in your own street so you went home ahead of time?

rcc, you are always asking intriguing as well as intelligent questions,
and they are multilayered as well.
Inflicting was the word I was given to work with, and I thought of it as something like
asphalt eczema - what you get when you topple on your bicycle. It hurts, it stings, but it will pass.
Now you bring up afflict. And to be honest, I think you need to be a native
- to have English as your first language to be able to pick up on the finer shades.
Not that I didn't try. One of my dictionaries suggest
afflict having a quality of continuity to it as opposed to the inflict
which is not seen as permanent, but a strike, a wound or the like.
The other dictionary is much more murky as it defines
inflict ~ to afflict with something painful.
I think I would choose inflict over afflict because of the time factor. What would your definition be, rcc?

widdershins, if the 42 refers to The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy,
it must have been yoro42 who's knowledgable about that, because I'm a sci-fi illiterate
- I have no idea what all the Star War quotes mean, and when a sci-fi topic come up in Hexagame,
I'm unhappy and clueless.
yoro42 wrote:
"yoro is an 'anonymous' variation of Rory which is my name and 42 is the answer to the meaning of life and everything"
Would that fit in with The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy?
Well, your YouTube clip might not have been the best lullaby here at bedtime
.... sort of creepy - nice silver lamé dresses, tho.
It was kind of you to try to explain, but I'm sorry, I didn't quite get it;
did I mention my brain lacks the sci-fi center?

Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

little mermaid,
It is your thread, just asking a question for purposes of clarification.

If you fall from a moving motorcycle the resulting loss of skin/flesh is called "asphalt rash."
My neighbor fell once and only his leather belt and shoes were not damaged.
That is why it is a good idea to wear leather when riding.
I think I will wear leather when I visit this thread.

Better you wear leather than I do, right?
Rash
- OK, it's rash then.
See, I'm not difficult!
I would never inflict willingly or wittingly
on my ex-Captain, sometimes present-Captain rose

Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

I was afraid you wouldn't understand LM. The subtleties of British humour sometimes don'tt travel well. I expect it's partly the translation to other languages.

It's best in the case of the above youTube clip not to think of the sci-fi elements as they are there merely to facilitate the comedy elements. Instead listen to the humour of the scarcastic view of philosophy/philosophers and the reactions of the scientists when they find out both how long it will take to get the answer and later (much, much later!) when they actually get the answer they've been waiting for!

As an aside, the google search engine has a calculator which provides the answer if you type a calculation into the search bar. e.g 6*9 give an answer of 54. But the calculator also spits out the answer 42 if you do a google search on the phrase The Answer To Life The Universe and Everything

Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

Actually, British and Danish humour swing well together.
Off the cuff I cannot think of the name of the series, but you may be old enough to know
a certain Mrs Hyacinth Bucket ?
John Cleese & Co have been treasured for years. Would you believe it:
We still re-re-re-run "Faulty Towers"?
Oh, yes, we understand it very well, but I'm sorry for the silicone filling up in my skull
where other people have their sci-fi center.
That I have serious concentration issues doesn't help either ....

Yes, exactly , retsof, thank you
How do you think the humo(u)r of "Keeping up Appearances"
works with American humo(u)r?

Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

Personally, I love British humour. It's really a blast!
Hyacinth - pompous, social climbing snob, her ever suffering hen pecked husband and
the rest of the comedic cast keeps me laughing out loud. :D

Re: Little Mermaid's "inflicting" thread

bjbdbest, when you posted this ^^^ your world was still intact.
I miss you - I know you're out there unable to respond
and I sorely miss you rose and I'll wait until you can.

SekeRob**** has taken to revive old threads.
I applaud him for that.
That brings more activity of the non-business kind into our Forums, which I'm all for.
I thought it might be a good idea to revive this one as well.
This way some general conversation could take place here instead of me
inflicting and being off topic in everybody's threads.
Here everything is on topic
- unless I inflictingly deem them not to be tongue

GeraldRube let us continue our #metoo politically incorrect flirting here, eh?
How are you? Still painting from Florida to Maine?
Or the opposite way, perchance? North to South I mean to say.
- see, I cannot post such questions in "What are you listening to", can I?
That would be some coarse infliction.
And I need to ask them.
Everybody is welcome hugs and anything still goes
EDIT: I wanted to remove the navy tagging in the first post of this thread, but rammed
my head horisontally into the Forum Bureaucracy - ouch!
