GPU power connector requirements by TDP Watts

Cards up to 75W can draw their power entirely from the PCIE slot. Cards requiring over 75W, need to draw additional power via power connectors from the PSU.

PCIE slot supplies up to 75W
Each 6pin power connector can supply up to an additional 75W
Each 8pin power connector can supply up to an additional 150W

Power connector requirements for GPU's up to (W):
75W - No power connectors required (powered from PCIE slot).
75W to 150W - One 6pin power connector required.
150W to 225W - Two 6pin power connectors required.
225W to 300W - One 6pin power connector + one 8pin Power connector required.
300W to 375W - Two 8pin Power connectors required.

List of some common ATI/AMD GPU's and NVidia GPU's, against Power requirements (TDP):

GeForce GTX 295 - 289W
GeForce GTX 285 - 204W
GeForce GTX 280 - 236W
GeForce GTX 275 - 219W
GeForce GTX 260 - 171W (216/55nm)
GeForce GTX 260 - 182W (216&192/65nm)
GeForce GT 240 - 69W

Listed by name (not performance), doesn't include OEM cards. Not all cards necessarily work here. These figures are Reference values (AMD/NVidia). Note that manufacturer/partner variations exist (MSI, EVGA, ASUS, Gainward, GIGABYTE, Zotac, Palit, PNY, Galaxy, Sparkle, Inno3D...). While typical power usage when crunching is ~75% TDP, this can vary substantially depending on the application.

VMT applause . Details like these are really useful for those of us having to upgrade from incompatible GPUs crying

Re: GPU power connector requirements by TDP Watts

skgiven,
For my GTX 560 Ti (448) these numbers seem to be right on the money.
I have seen as much as 205W usage while playing games.

On a good note , these Beta GPU jobs only used a peak of 130W biggrin
Half the time they only drew about 65W and when the GPU was at peak usage it went to 130W.
Much better than I had expected. I just hope that will continue when they go into full production.

Re: GPU power connector requirements by TDP Watts

Spotted, was a typo - it's actually a GeForce GTS 450
There is a GeForce GTX 550 Ti, but no GTX 450!

Thanks,
