Cupid #3 Treat Bag Challenge

Post by LyndaKay »

Hello Cherries! This morning I'm going to give you instructions on how to make a Valentine's Day candy pouch. If you would like to make one and enter the contest, please post a picture of your bag in the gallery's contest section under "Cupid #3 Treat Bag Challenge" by midnight on Feb. 14th. I will use a random number generator to pick a winner from the entries. The winner will be announced on February 15th or 16th and will get a $5.00 ACOT gift certificate!!

Here's what we're making:
Image

Materials:
1. Scrapbook paper
2. Double sided tape
3. Candy
4. Sewing machine (other options will be discussed)
5. Decorative edged scissors
6. Embellishments/tags

I used Doodlebug's Sweet Cakes line for my treat bags.

1. To make a rectangular pouch: Cut a 6 inch by 6 inch SQUARE. This will hold about 6 Dove chocolates or Hershey Kisses. You can get 4 bags out of a 12x12 paper.

2. To make a squarer pouch: Cut a 5 inch by 8 inch piece. This will also hold about 6 candies. Try using a piece of scrap paper first to see if you've made one large enough for your candy selection.

3. If using the 6x6 paper, put adhesive on one entire edge.
4. If using the 5x8, put adhesive on one entire 5 inch edge.
Image

5. The rest of the directions are the same for all sizes.
6. Bring the opposite side from the adhesive strip around and stick it on the adhesive creating a tube.
Image
7. Position the taped seam off center and pinch ONLY the bottom of the tube together. Don't crease the sides. Sew it closed about 1/2 inch from the bottom.
Image

8. Fill with a few candies. Now pinch the top of the tube together AFTER you have turned the tube 90 degrees from the bottom edge.
Image
9. Sew the top edges together with a 1/2 inch seam. Use decorative scissors to make a fancy border, if you wish.
Image
10. Embellish.
11. If you don't want to use a sewing machine, close the ends with a few brads, eyelets, decorative tape or even staples, taking into consideration the age of the recipient. (Metal closures might not be a good idea for really young kids.) Just make sure the candy doesn't fall out!
:-D

I know this is a "super" busy day for many of us, but this is NOT a fast scrap. Again, you have until midnight on Feb. 14th to enter. Have fun and post any questions.

I spotted them on Pinterest for Easter candy and they were super easy to make. They might be good for handing out treats at school if they still allow candy at school!! :inlove:

That is exactly what I'm going to use them for! We are fortunate our school still lets the kids do holidays and candy and since a lot of the parents know I'm a paper crafter they are always expecting something interesting. ;)
I'm going to make these for school, Girl Scouts, work, wow the possibilities are endless!

Great idea! Since I don't have candy on hand yet--I think I will sew one end and make another closure for the other...

Cute idea! I do a "Secret Sister" in a club I belong to, so this would be fun to do for her for Valentine's Day. Looks like the directions are easy to follow too!
