Linux install problem [RESOLVED]

After downloading the Linux version, the following error messages were displayed.

Could not open the file /home/mint/Downloads/boi…0.58_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh.
pluma has not been able to detect the character encoding.

How do I overcome this problem, please?

Re: Linux install problem

Hello Gandalf_PCHF,
Obviously I cannot help since I do not run Linux, but I suspect that everyone will wonder just which flavor of Linux OS you are trying to install the WCG 6.10.58 BOINC package in.

Re: Linux install problem

On Mint and other Ubuntu derivatives, it works best to install BOINC from the Ubuntu repositories. You can find Mint's software installer on one of the menus (sorry, I'm not running Mint right now and don't recall exactly where) and then search for BOINC.

Re: Linux install problem

imho to have GPU computing run well I'd recommend not to use boinc client from repos. For my ubuntu 12.10x64 I download 7.0.28 boinc to home dir and install it. Then I add "/home/BOINC/run_client --daemon" to startup applications.

To run boinc you need to be installed some extra libs. Easy way to do it:
1. sudo apt-get install boinc
2. sudo apt-get remove boinc boinc-client boinc-manager
3. boinc 7.0.28 is ready to be installed manually to home dir (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC#Linux)

p.s. *Didn't have any problem to run boinc under Arch Linux. Just read arch wiki.

Looks like the same problem as here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,33688_offset,0#389800

Seems to me that you try to run a 32 bit binary on a 64 bit operating system without 32 bit compat libraries installed. You should try the 64 bit version of boinc.

Re: Linux install problem

I solved all my computer problems by changing OS to LinuxMint.
